About tomatoes
The difference in taste and aroma between home grown tomatoes and those we buy at the supermarket is significant.
To allow your tomatoes to regain some of the lost taste and aroma, buy them when they are not ripe yet; even green will do. Take them out of grocery bag and place them on the kitchen counter, stem face down. It will take a couple of days or more, depending on the initial state, to ripe. When they ripe in such fashion their taste and aroma will be better.
If you wish to remove their skin, take a short, sharp, straight edge knife, place it on the surface of the tomato, and pressing, while you the knife is at an angle of 45 degrees to the tomato, slide it across the entire surface of the tomato. Then, poke a hole, at any point, and using you thump and the edge of the knife pick the skin and pull away from tomato.
