STEAMING VEGETABLES in microwave oven

Clean vegetables well.

If your recipe requires for them be cut into pieces, do so after you’ve washed them.

Place them in one or more plastic bags, depending on quantity.

Wrap plastic bag around vegetables, but do not seal.

Place bag in microwave oven with opening wrapped underneath the vegetables. This will keep some of the steam in to facilitate cooking and to allow vegetable juices to remain in vegetables, making them tender. At the same time, excess steam will escape if bag is not sealed.

An alternative way is to use a plastic or glass container, not much larger than the volume of the vegetables to be cooked requires, with a lid. Place cleaned vegetables in, place lid on, BUT do not seal; excess steam should be able to escape.

Not using one of the above techniques, may cause the vegetables to dry up and loose their color and tenderness.

Cooking time will depend on the quantity of vegetables and on your own personal taste as to the level of desired cooking.
