Ingredients1 1/2 cups fine semolina
1 cup coarsely ground semolina 1 1/2 cups of sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla or 1/4 teasoon ground mastic 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 1/2 cups yogurt 1 teaspoon baking soda 48 blanched almond halves 4 tablespoons melted unsalted butter DirectionsMix together semolina, sugar,flavoring and baking powder in a large bowl.and make a well in the center. In a separate bowl,mix the yogurt with baking soda. Pour the mixture into the well.Gradually mix semolina with yogurt,stirring with a spoon until well blended. pour the mixture into a well-greased ,11 by 15 inch,baking pan. Smoothen the surface with a wet spatula. LET IT STAND for 2-3 hours until semolina is well swollen. Score the surface into pieces and place a half almond on each piece. Bake the cake in a 350F for 35-40 minutes.
Prepare a syrup : 2 1/2 cups sugar 1 1/2 cups water 2 tablespoons lemon juice 1 teaspoon vanilla boil the above ingredients for 5 minutes. Remove the cake from the oven,brush the top with butter and ladle over the syrup,slowly and evenly. |
