Din Tai FungLegendary Steamed Dumplings / Taiwanese1108 S Baldwin Ave, Arcadia, CA 91007 (map it!)If you haven't been, this is the place to go for Chinese/Taiwanese style dumplings in Los Angeles. The place is legendary. According to their website:
DinTaiFung [...] selected as one of the top ten restaurants in the world by the "New York Times". And, despite this, their prices are very reasonable/cheap (you can easily escape for under $15-$20 per person). They are purportedly very authentic, with locations all over eastern Asia -- the only American location is right here in Arcadia. (626) 574-7068 They close at 9:30pm, except 9pm on Sundays. Food / ServiceThey have a very tasty and well executed selection of dumpling, rice/fried rice, noodle, and vegetable dishes. Their steamed pork dumplings are the standard thing to order. The sesame noodles are also quite good.
Overall, the food is highly recommended. Environment / AmbienceThe most obvious and unavoidable fact about Din Tai Fung is that its popularity results in long lines of people crowded outside of the door just waiting for a chance at the dumplings. Inside, it's a relatively typical, clean, well-kept, brightly lit, San Gabriel Valley style Chinese restaurant. The great thing is that it's in a little commercial plaza -- so you can go hunt for boba while you wait for your number to approach.
They also offer take-out, which I'm definitely going to try. |
