Gin Sushi

always very cheap, often very good sushi

Gin is a very pleasant gamble... about 3/4 of the time, it's quite good sushi at quite low prices.

About 1/8 of the time, it's even better sushi. I don't know if this is when they get their fresh shipments, or what, but it's really outstanding from time to time.

The remaining 1/8 of the time, you "get what you pay for". It's not very good, but not miserable either.

Food / Service

Good, cheap sushi and sashimi.

They also serve quite good side dishes (e.g. the tempura is always tasty and well executed, if a little on the oily side).

Their little cucumber micro-salad is one of the best I've tried and it's even free with the meal (but you have to ask for it ... apparently, many of their regulars don't like it).

The waitstaff is friendly and courteous, albeit a bit overworked (it's a largeish place, and usually only 2-3 servers are around).

Environment / Ambience

It's a pretty large restaurant with two main rooms: one for booths and tables, another for the sushi bar (and walking space for the waitstaff :P).

The sushi chefs are often chatty, and add a lively feel to the sushi bar. The rest of the shop is functional and clean, and the booths are comfortable / cozy.
